Geometrics

I just bought a new chair and I absolutely love it!
I wasn't planning on it.  It just happened.
My plan was to buy a leather chair for a particular spot in my living room.

I wanted one like this:

horchow

or this:

joss and main

or maybe even this:

3.bp.blogspot

I also knew that it was going to take me a long time to get one.  See with one child in college and the other one not far behind, I had to get my priorities straight.  Buying a new leather chair was not at the top of my list.  So, it was either wait many years down the road, or, see this one at Marshalls on sale for an incredible price and talk my wonderful husband into why we should buy this one while we wait save for the leather one of my dreams.

What do you think?  Isn't it just beautiful!

I adore the geometric pattern on the fabric.  That seems to be all the rage lately.  By the time I can afford to get that lovely leather chair, this will probably be out of style.  I do prefer to purchase timeless pieces, hence, the leather chair.  For right now, I'm downright giddy about this piece.

Here are some great uses of geometric patterns.  They all look so fabulous.  Who knows, maybe they are becoming the new timeless.  Only time will tell.

Look for a post in the future when my entire living room is complete.  Still need some sort of bamboo shades for my windows, a side table to go with my new chair and maybe a floor lamp to make it the perfect reading spot.

Thanks for stopping by.  Hope you're enjoying your summer so far.  I know I am.  Having the summers off is just glorious.

Summer is flying by.......

Where is the time going?????  When they start to advertise "back to school" items, I know the summer is almost over.
Well we finally received the balance of our furniture shipment, so I can really start to settle.  I have taken a few pics of some "spot" decorating (that is my word for putting together one little area in a big room).

I placed this little layering between my living room and dining room as a little divider.

This is my collection of old/new bottles on display in a terrarium.  I glued many sea shells into corks for toppers.

A "spot" in my dining area to display some treasures.
Need to distress this table.  Don't you think?
Had to break up the entertainment center, due to the lack of  a full wall.  We set it between a window, and I think it works
Little area between the back door and half bath.  Great place for our keys.

Well this is the only "spot" Decorating I have done so far.  More to come in the coming weeks.

Summer isn't really almost over is it?  Let's enjoy one day at a time. "This is the day the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it".

A Passion for Fashion

One of my favorite things to do when I'm surfing the web is catch up on all the latest fashion.  When I find a look I like I "pin it" to my fashion board on Pinterest.  While looking at that board the other day, I noticed that a lot of the things that I pinned, I already owned, or at least some form of it.  That's what gave me the idea for this post.

So, with the help of my lovely and talented daughter, who is becoming quite the photographer, I set out to recreate some of my favorite looks.  Not an easy fete.  I was exhausted by the time we were finished.  Five outfit changes in a matter of a half hour is enough to make one weary I tell ya!

With no further ado, here are our results:

I suppose the more we do this the better we'll get at it.  For example, having our cars as a backdrop is not ideal.  I chose this picture though, because it was the best one.

This is actually an outfit I wear often.

The picture on the left shows this outfit worn in the winter.  As you can see, it is very versatile and can be adapted to the warmer weather too.

Did I tell you that it was about 82 degrees here in Central New York today.  That probably sounds down right cold compared to other parts of the country.  I took advantage of the great breezes and didn't sweat too much in some of these sweaters.

I know, the only similarities here are that they are both white dresses.  That's what makes them so great to have in your wardrobe for the warmer months.  Any color or accessory can be added to this dress to completely change the look.  You can wear it with flats and a scarf for a fun day touring your favorite city or dress it up for a date night with some heals, a great statement necklace and a fabulous bag.  The possibilities are endless.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your warm weather fashions for a few more months.

Daughters

A daughter is a miracle that never ceases to be miraculous...full of beauty and forever beautiful...loving and caring and truly amazing.

Chloe Joy Kay

She came into this world a day earlier than expected.  I should have known then that impatience would be a trait that she would possess.  She is my second child, two years and 9 days younger than my oldest son Joshua (click here to revisit Josh's post).  My birthday is in January also, so it makes for quite the busy month (coming right off the heals of the Christmas season).  We just don't want to stop the celebrations I guess.  She is knick named Sweet Pea, Sweet, Chlo, Chlobie and Chlobie Joykins amongst others.  You can learn a lot from a person's Pinterest page.  Be sure to visit hers.

The three January babies!

Chloe is going to be a senior in high school starting this fall.  For her graduation party next year we will be putting together a "slideshow of her life" just like we did for Josh's party.  Needless to say, we haven't started it yet, which means I have not yet scanned in many of her baby pictures.  Here's one of her and Josh I just happened to have.
1995

I found this quote online somewhere, sorry I don't have the author, but because Chloe is 17 now, I thought it most apropos.

"It's the oldest story in the world.  One day, you're 17 and you're planning for someday. And then quietly, without you ever really noticing, someday is today.  And then someday is yesterday.  And this is your life."

Basically, you have your whole life ahead of you.  Find your dream, and go live it.  Time passes us by so quickly that before you know it, your right in the middle of your life.  Only God knows his plan for us.  Live life each day as if it were your last.  This is my advice for her.

Here are 17 reasons why Chloe Joy Kay is the most amazing and special daughter anyone could ever ask for.

1.  She is a child of God.
2.  Her zest for life is immeasurable.
3.  The love she has for her family is more special than words can say.
4.  She can turn any situation into the best memories you'll ever have.
5.  Because she is sometimes impatient, bossy, stubborn and opinionated, I know that God made her that way for a reason and those things have made her who she is today.
6.  She always strives to be better.
7.  Her interests are quite diverse from horses (animals), art, photography, tennis, volunteering, skiing, physical therapy and her love for God; making her quite the well rounded individual.
8.  She is "smarter than the average bear".
9.  If it weren't for her memory, I don't know where I would be.  I think I'll be totally lost when she leaves for college next year.
10.  I know she won't admit it, but she loves her brother like no other.  Deep down inside, they would be lost without each other.
11.  She will be the first to lend a helping hand.  She will be the first one there to help set up and the last one there helping to clean up.
12.  Her sense of fashion makes me smile, right on top of the trends.
13.  She's pretty athletically diverse having tried many sports such as  running, lacrosse, basketball, soccer, swimming and volleyball.  Currently she still skis, rides horses and plays tennis.
14.  Her sense of humor leaves me gasping for air on many occasions.
15.  We have the best mother/daughter relationship.  She comes to me often for advice and I recognize when she needs her space......but.....she is definitely "Daddy's little girl".
16.  She hates to read, and she'll be the first to admit it.  However, if she finds a great book, she won't put it down 'til she's finished.  She actually prefers magazines to novels.
17.  And last, but certainly not least, Chloe Joy has one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know.  She takes after her Dad in that way and is an awful lot like my Mom when it comes to the size of her heart.  They don't come much bigger.

Many say she looks a lot like her Aunt Mary (Mark's sister)
One of the many proms/balls she's been to with her boyfriend.

Thank you God for giving us the most incredible daughter, sister, granddaughter and friend.  I don't know what we did to deserve such an inspiration in our lives, but we will be forever indebted.

Beach vs. Pool........

I have always been a pool person.  Living in upstate New York for almost my entire life, that truly was the means for cooling off in the summer.  We certainly had the Lakes, and the occasional stream, but for true floating, diving and cooling off, give me a pool.  Well that has all changed. Almost 12 years ago, after moving to a coastal state, it is now the OCEAN.  I think I mentioned to you that I am a Nanny and it is a favorite outing for many of my Lovies.

This is little Anna.......Cutie Pie

This is at low tide.  Look at all the beach (sand) room.

Forever play room.......

Early morning at the beach.

It's great at low tide, because the little kiddos can play in the tide pools.
 Love the beach............

82 degree water temp....can't beat that, and you don't have to turn on the pool heater.

You can just sit your chair in the water and read your book......

Come on "Nanny Chrissy", let's go in the water...

"The OCEAN, not the pool"

What's your choice?  Ocean or pool?  Just curious.  Oh, we picked up some great Sea Shells, Sand Dollars and Star Fish. (At the "OCEAN").
